About Me

Introduction

Originally from Scotland, I spent more than 25 years teaching internationally. I’ve lived in 10 different locations outside Scotland and now work as an educational consultant. I’m passionate about travelling and always planning the next trip. Travel has been a huge part of my life — I’ve visited more than 70 countries.

How I Travel

In my younger days, I loved hiking and was happy to camp and backpack.

Now, I appreciate the finer things in life and while I still enjoy an adventure, I value returning to a comfortable bed, a hot shower, and a well-chosen hotel, lodge, or apartment to relax in.

In the past, I often chose package holidays. Now, I prefer to build my own itineraries so I get exactly what I’m looking for.

Planning Trips for Others

Having spent so much time overseas, I’m fortunate to have friends all over the world. When they visit, I naturally plan their itineraries.

Most of this has been for Scotland and Malaysia, but I’ve also helped friends plan trips to places I’ve previously visited — creating experiences that are practical, enjoyable, and tailored to what they actually want.

Why I Do This

I’m at a stage in my life where I wanted to do something a little different, so I set myself up as an independent travel consultant — helping others enjoy travelling as much as I do.

I use the organisational skills I developed as a practitioner and school leader and apply them in a different context — making travel planning clear, structured, and stress-free.

The only downside is that when I plan trips for others, it reminds me how much of the world I still want to see.

So I’ve now trained and set up Improving Travel, where I’m an Independent Travel Consultant with Jamie Wake Travel (Jamie Wake Travel is a trading name of Wake Enterprises Limited, registered in England & Wales.)
